On September 19th, I attended Toonfest in Marceline, MO.  Marceline was the childhood home of Walt Disney, and legend has it that Marceline was “where Walt found the magic.”

I found out about Toonfest when some of their organizers were at the Toon Award Exhibition to promote the event, and when it turned out there were more cartoonists to be had there, my mom and I decided to truck it out to Missouri together.  I got a vendor’s space for Saturday, but on Friday I attended Student Day to hear the four guest speakers early.

The four guests were Wiley Miller, Mark Fiore, Dave Mowder, and Sam Viviano.  It’s always fascinating hearing people from different aspects of cartooning talk about their work and how they got to where they are.  I also saw Paul Fell and Ken Alvine again, who attended but weren’t speakers.  It was a fun weekend, and worth going out there just for the chance to meet the cartoonists.

The famous autograph t-shirt is a little closer to being full now.  I’m not sure what I’ll do when there’s actually no more room!
