Here's the Deal

If you are interested in commissioning me for an illustration, please review my rules/terms of service [HTML/PDF] and then contact me with the details of your commission. By submitting your commission request, you indicate that you have read and understand the terms of service. The most important things to note are:

  1. I need a 25% downpayment before I start your commission, which pays for the pencil sketch if you decide you don't want to proceed with the rest of the commission.
  2. Once the client approves the sketch for coloring, no more alterations can be incorporated.
  3. Commissions are delivered as a print-quality 300 DPI .JPEG to do with as you wish. I unfortunately can't mail original artwork or prints.
  4. I keep the rights to use the artwork in my portfolio and/or for commercial purposes.

These are my standard terms of service, but they are negotiable in certain cases under special circumstances. Please let me know if there are any other terms you'd like to stipulate.

Pricing

Baseline pricing (US Dollars) for a single figure is as follows:

Pencil: $15 and up

Color (Simple Background): $30 and up

Color (Detailed Background): $50 and up

Additional figures and/or heavily detailed figures will affect the price depending on the work involved. Please keep in mind that these numbers are speculative, and your specific request might deviate from these prices. For payment, I accept money orders via snail mail (though it will slow down the speed at which your commission is completed) and all major credit cards through PayPal.

Styles

I can do illustrations of just about anything if references are provided, but my art tends to break down into these basic style categories:

Comic

An anime-influenced style that evolved from the anime-style I've been drawing with since the late 90s. Can be seen from page 156 and on in my webcomic, Garanos. An extremely stylized variation of this style can also be seen in my short comic The Shepherd.
Examples:

Jigworthy

The style used in my first webcomic, Jigworthy. Characterized by anime-like features and cartoonish, smaller-proportioned bodies, but not quite Super Deformed. Influenced by the acclaimed college webcomic, Mac Hall.
Examples:

Anime

Rooted in traditional Japanese comics and animation, and very stylized. Can be seen in pages 1-155 of Garanos.
Examples:

Super Deformed (or Chibi)

Chibi is the Japanese word for "small person" or "runt" and is often used by Westerners to refer to the super deformed style of Japanese caricaturing. The sudden appearance of an SD version of a character is usually used for comedic effect to show an exaggerated emotion, and will sometimes only last for a few seconds. This style is purely fun and cute.

Don't Ask For...

I will not draw the following:

  • Most Fantasy Animals. Yes, I did do a dragon once, but that request made me resolve to stick with what I do best, and that's people. I can draw the occassional cat or dog, among other quadrupedal mammals, so as long as perfect anatomical accuracy isn't an issue, feel free to ask about common animals. I also draw horses fairly well, so unicorns are totally in! (Who doesn't like unicorns?)

There are tons and tons of artists out there who specialize in fictional creatures and high fantasy and so forth, so I'd rather you get something fabulous that you really love from one of them than something of lesser quality from me.

  • Furry/Anthro. For the same reasons as above.
  • Obscene Nudity or Graphic Pornography. Artistic nudity is fine, and for the right price I'd be willing to do something tastefully sexual, along the lines of this or this. I will not under any circumstances do artwork of an adult nature depicting minors.
  • Technical Machinery. Anything both very detailed and mechanical. Armor and weapons I can do, and I do them on a regular basis in my comics, but highly technical drawings aren't something I'm very confident about. Like animals and anthro, there are many other artists who do mechanical illustrations very well, but I don't count myself among them.
